Provo Airport is a public airport located approximately 3 km southwest from Provo city in Utah, USA. It is the second busiest airport in Utah with reference to aircraft movements.
Provo airport is almost entirely used for general aviation purposes. There are some charter flights but at present no commercial airlines operate scheduled flights to the airport. The closest airport offering commercial services is Salt Lake City Intl. Airport located around 40 miles north. However Skywest Airlines did offer commercial flights from the airport from 1974 – 1975.
The airport covers 869 acres. It has two runways and two helipads. The airport has a fixed base operator and is frequently used for flight training. It is home to many flight schools. One is even operated by Utah Valley University. Earlier it was an uncontrolled airport. The Air Traffic Control Tower started operating in 2005. When this happened the surrounding airspace was subsequently converted into Class D airspace. It encompasses a 4 nautical mile radius surrounding the airport and up to 7,000 feet MSL.
Many hotels offer shuttle service to and from the airport. Also there are other taxis, limos and rental cars available at the airport. Provo city has a vibrant social calendar. The city of Provo has many restaurants, shopping malls and variety of entertainment options. The America’s Freedom Festival, Festival Latinoamerica and Sego festival are cultural events showcasing artists, food, culture and music of Provo city. Provo is also known as student town because of the large student population.
